AI Rules are instructions you give Ghost about how to handle certain situations. They apply across every AI feature, so once you set a rule, Ghost follows it everywhere. Open it from Preferences > AI Rules.

How rules work

Most rules read like “if this happens, do that.” For example:
  • “If someone asks about a billing dispute, tell them we will provide a refund.”
  • “If a brand wants to schedule a call, ask what times work for them.”
  • “If a creator asks me to make content, thank them and ask for the details.”
Ghost uses these rules whenever it writes a draft, so your replies stay consistent without you repeating yourself.

Add and manage rules

  • Click + New Rule to add an instruction.
  • Use the pencil and trash icons to edit or remove a rule.
  • Each rule shows when it was last updated.

Token budget

Your rules share a budget, shown at the top (for example, “769 out of 32,000 tokens”). Longer rules use more of the budget. If you run low, tighten your wording or remove rules you no longer need.
Memories vs. rules: Memories are facts about you. AI Rules are instructions for how to act. Use memories for “who I am” and rules for “what to do.”
